Daily trivia info

March 31, 2011

With the spring season in full swing, we’re bringing back our softball rulebook trivia.

This year, we’re doing daily trivia. We’ll post one question a day, usually in the morning, and we’ll provide the answer later in the afternoon.

For simplicity’s sake, we’ll use the ASA rulebook, unless otherwise stated.

To get in on the fun, you can follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

Thursday trivia: Run crosses before third out… What’s the call?

August 19, 2010

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for trivia.

The way we play is simple. We give you a scenario from a softball game. You tell us what call the umpire should make — if the umpire should make a call at all.

Here’s this week’s question:

Two outs, runners on first and third. The batter grounds the ball to second.

Instead of stepping on second for the easy out, the second baseman tries to run down the runner at first. The runner on third makes it home before the runner that started on first is tagged out.

What’s the call?

Thursday trivia: A fly ball hits a bird… What’s the call?

July 29, 2010

It’s Thursday, which means it’s time again for our weekly softball rules trivia question.

Here’s how it works: We’ll post an in-game scenario. You tell us what call the umpire should make, if the umpire should make a call at all.

Without further ado, here’s this week’s scenario.

The batter pops up to deep center. As the ball is dropping, it collides with an unlucky bird that happened to fly by.

The center fielder reacts quickly and catches the ball before it hits the ground.

What’s the call?

Thursday trivia: Catcher lines up behind the batter’s box… What’s the call?

July 22, 2010

It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for softball trivia.

Here’s how it works: We give you an in-game situation. You tell us what call the umpire should make, if the umpire should make a call at all.

Without further ado, here’s this week’s situation.

Runner on second. The pitcher is throwing an intentional walk.

With sore knees, the catcher decides she’d rather than squat behind home and lunge for every pitch. Instead, she stands behind the opposite-side batter’s box and easily catches the pitches.

What’s the call?

Know the answer? Post it here, give us a Tweet or find us on Facebook.

While you think it over, here’s the soon-to-be-retired Jennie Finch talking about tough love.
