Video: Angela Tincher’s no-hitter against Team USA

September 3, 2010

This video comes from March 2008.

Preparing for the Beijing Olympics, the US Women’s National Team was completing a round of exhibition games against college softball teams. In this particular game, Team USA paid a visit to Virginia Tech and an up-and-coming pitcher named Angela Tincher.

Tincher actually tried out for the Women’s National Team shortly before the game, and she didn’t make the cut.

There’s little doubt that the no-hitter she threw — snapping the Team USA’s 185 pre-Olympic winning streak — made coaches think twice about cutting her again.

She currently plays for the Women’s Futures National Team.

The video is in several parts. Here they are:

UCLA put up some impressive stats this past week as they captured the Women’s College World Series championship.

They went yard more often than a gardener. They had more lumber than a Home Depot.

They were hitting lights-out.

The Bruins hit a school-record 108 home runs this season. They hit at least two home runs in every single game of the NCAA tournament (10 games), and finished with an astounding 31 HRs in the postseason.

UCLA hit 14 home runs during the Women’s College World Series. There were 31 home runs hit by all eight teams in the WCWS.

What does that mean?

It means that 45 percent of all Women’s College World Series home runs came from UCLA bats. The Bruins were swinging with a purpose.

And what were they swinging?

Easton softball bats. Bruins players swung the Easton 2011 Synge ($199.99), the Easton 2011 Stealth Speed ($299.99) and the Easton 2011 Synergy Speed ($249.99).

You can get all three bats at Softball Sales.
