It’s time once again for our weekly Thursday softball rules trivia question!
Here’s how it works: We give you a scenario of something happening on a softball field. You tell us what call the umpire should make (or shouldn’t make).
Without further ado, here’s this week’s question.
A switch hitter has two strikes batting righty, and she thinks she might have better luck batting lefty. She waits for the pitcher to finish taking a signal before stepping across home plate and getting into position in the lefty box.
What’s the call?
If you know the answer, post it here, give us a Tweet or find us on Facebook.
While you think it over, here’s a short video with Jessica Mendoza, explaining how to hit outside pitches.

She is “out”. Batter cannot switch sides when the pitcher is in the ready position. She must switch before the pitcher is in the ready position.
Correct!
A batter cannot cross the plate and change batting boxes while the pitcher is receiving a signal or in the period between the signal and the pitch (in the ready position).
